Job Description:

The System Architect will work with limited supervision and provide IT Infrastructure architectural design, support, enhancement efforts and consultation services in support of the organization's IT infrastructure and related systems of VGM Group, Inc. The Systems Architect works in conjunction with the Technology Data Center Infrastructure Services team and will collaborate with team members in the design, installation, support and maintenance of underlying data center infrastructure to include: server management, VMware, MS Active Directory, Enterprise Storage, and Enterprise Backup services. Communication in this role is crucial as project outlines, inclusive of estimation/timelines, will need to be provide to upper management through regular briefings, presentations and written updates.

This position may occasionally require working nights, weekends, and holidays, either on-site, remotely or a combination of the two.

Reports to: Network Team Lead

Hours: Monday – Friday 8-5 PM+ (additional hours as needed)                             

Working Location: VGM Main Campus, Waterloo, IA        

 

Primary Responsibilities:

The Systems Architect will perform independent analysis, development, testing, implementation and maintenance of complex server technologies and act as internal consultant, advocate, mentor, and change agent. Specific Duties Include:

  • Strong technical experience; Windows and Linux operating systems, server virtualization, MS Active Directory, performance tuning, automated patch management systems
  • Advanced knowledge of information technology system analysis, design, testing and maintenance techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of computer or network hardware, software, operating systems, programming languages, or other information technology tools/resources
  • Ability to solve moderately complex problems and apply critical thinking skills to needs or problems, both individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to prepare status reports and moderately complex technical reports in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to work effectively with users, vendors, and staff members and other IT units
  • Ability to flexibly manage multiple priorities and proactively address needs in a dynamic environment
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality results
  • Experience in the development of project documentation (functional specifications, technical specifications, test plans, etc.)
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills (with all levels of the organization) and a very good command of the English language
  • Ability to work with diverse groups and work within the team environment
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas and subjects accurately, clearly and concisely
  • Ability to transfer knowledge to technicians and functional teams
  • Strong collaborative and leadership skills working with representatives from a variety of internal and external sources to implement and support strategic technology initiatives, and analyze, improve and mature IT governance processes based on the business
  • Ability to meet deadlines, complete important time sensitive tasks, adapt quickly to last minute changes and manage multiple projects
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing adaptable, scalable technology platforms, including extensive experience with hardware and software integration, security, disaster recovery, governance and strategic planning

Position Qualifications

  • Minimum of two-year degree in Information Technology
  • 8+ years’ experience with advanced enterprise class solutions
  • Above Average Soft Skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours
  • Strong English oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to convey technical concepts in a clear and concise manner to non-technical personnel
