Job Description

The Sales Account Representative (SAR) is a relationship driven, consultative sales professional representing VGM Education to current and prospective clients and members. The SAR’s primary functions are to:

  • drive retention of current VGM Education clients and members,
  • build service offerings with these clients (increase users),
  • prospect to generate new VGM Education sales opportunities,
  • build relationships with VGM vendors, engaging in sales and support when appropriate.    

Ultimately tasked with building our brand to support the divisional goal of revenue sustainability, commitment to in-depth knowledge of our industry needs and our service offerings is crucial to one’s success. This is a position requiring strong personal drive; some travel will occur periodically.

Reports to:                Sales Director

Hours:                        Full time; 40 hours/week but will require off -hour member appointments, outings, and engagements. Position will periodically (4-8 times/year) include overnight travel.

Working Location:    Waterloo, Iowa

Compensation:         Exempt Position; Salary plus commission.

These are the responsibilities expected of an applicant interested in this position.

To accomplish the key functions of the position: retention of clients, expansion of current client usage, prospecting new clients, and building vendor partner relationships; the Sales Account Representative will be working as part of the VGM Education Sales team and also in partnership with the VGM Insurance Division and VGM Secure to increase educational services. Specific metrics and goals will be provided, duties required to meet these goals include:

  • Recommend courses and services to members/clients based on their needs,
  • Provide excellent on-going customer service and account management,
  • Prospect to generate leads for the Education sales process,
  • Assist in onboarding of new members/clients and provide ongoing support,
  • Support members with questions and issues – know how and when to refer them for support elsewhere,
  • Help to maintain departmental databases for tracking purposes, including accruing status and resourcing information and monthly reports,
  • Answer phone and email inquiries timely and accurately,
  • Occasional travel to meet with current and prospective members/clients,
  • Participate in marketing and industry educational events (i.e. seminars, trade shows),
  • Represent VGM by relationship building and generating business leads to follow-up on,
  • Prepare and facilitate presentations when appropriate,
  • Maintain a positive, results oriented work environment, building partnerships and model teamwork, communicating to others in an open, balanced and objective manner.


Applicants are expected to meet these qualifications to be considered for this position.

2+ years professional sales experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience in health care/home medical equipment industry a plus. 

Crucial to success in the role is the proven ability to be a business and sales partner, forging relationships with members/clients and colleagues. These relationships must be built on reliability, trust and respect, thus promoting the ability to have in-depth business conversations. In addition, qualified candidates must have/be:

  • Recognized proficiency to work well with others across the organization; demonstrating the ability to work cooperatively and build consensus
  • Sound interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required for the purpose of developing and delivering presentations as well as creating, composing and editing written materials

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize heavy workloads to meet time sensitive deadlines
  • A flexible attitude with respect to work assignments and new learning
  • Solid working knowledge of Excel and relevant software such as MS-office: Word, PowerPoint etc.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and provide a positive company image to industry personnel and public alike
