Job Description

As an intern with VGM Corporate Accounting you will gain professional experiences that prepare individuals for a role in corporate accounting. The work is fast-paced and deadline focused.

VGM, as a multi-business company, will excitedly challenge an intern to work as part of a team and autonomously on projects such as:

  • daily cash reports and summaries,
  • general ledger,
  • audits,
  • tax and currency exchange as well as special projects.

Through the internship experience VGM will provide resources to help interns explore and sharpen skills and make meaningful contributions to a professional business team.

Reports to:                 Assistant Controller

Timeframe:                May – July 2019, 30+ hours per week during regular business hours

Working Location:    Waterloo, Iowa

Compensation:         Paid Internship; the selected candidate will be well compensated and will have growth opportunities within VGM, up to opportunities for full-time employment.


These are the responsibilities expected of an applicant interested in this position.

Internship Learning Opportunities and Responsibilities:

The accounting intern will be assigned a specific or series of projects that will incorporate AR, AP, Collections and Tax knowledge.  The intern will collaborate with existing team members for guidance and project delivery. 

  • Assist in the month-end close process which will include journal entry prep and posting
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations
  • Assist in general ledger upgrade as necessary
  • Assist with special projects


Applicants are expected to meet these qualifications to be considered for this position.

The ideal candidate will be an accounting major, preferably junior or senior status if attending a four-year university.

  • Must excel at working with a team
  • Extreme comfort and knowledge with Microsoft systems, specifically Excel
  • Take direction and follow thru on tasks within parameters of project and timeline
  • Critical attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and change direction quickly
