VGM Insurance Services, a vital division of the VGM Group, specializes in Product and Professional Liability Insurance to Home Care dealers throughout the United States.


As the Database Administrator (DBA) with VGM Insurance Services, your key objective will be to keep the database up and running to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the company. You will monitor and optimize database performance and manage, back up and ensure the availability of data produced while considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users. This critical role is responsible for the performance and security of the database and works closely with stakeholders to create reports by querying from database as needed.


These are the responsibilities expected of an applicant interested in this position.

  • Installing and upgrading the database server and/or application tools
  • Planning and allocating the database system’s physical requirements, such as memory, disk space, network requirements, etc.
  • Modifying the database structure using information provided by application developers and vendors
  • Creating users’ profiles and ensuring system security by careful allocation of user permissions
  • Ensuring compliance with database vendor license agreement, including number of installations, and taking care of licensing renewals.
  • Creating a backup and recovery strategy for the database, and regularly testing the backups to ensure usability
  • Monitoring technical support for database replication, database systems and related applications.
  • Create, maintain and monitor data transfer services (APIs), scripts, jobs and ETL functions between databases and from external sources
  • Migrating database instances to new hardware and new versions of software


Applicants are expected to meet these qualifications to be considered for this position.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or a related field
  • Proficient with SQL syntax and Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of 'relational database management systems' (RDBMS), 'object-oriented database management systems' (OODBMS) and XML database management systems
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a DBA role or performing DBA responsibilities in a project setting with knowledge of data security and protection
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in both individual and team work environments
  • Python or other programming language experience preferred
